If you’ve been dealing with burnout you’ve probably considered buying a wellness program. Because how do you fight stress? Self-care, of course. But if that's the solution, how come you still have a burnout problem... Here's why that advice is wrong and what you really need to do to take care of your issue once and for all
It’s a common belief that you can’t retain talent in nonprofits because there’s no money to pay competitive wages but actually, turnover is a much more complicated phenomenon. Find out why and just what can be done to move the needle on retention for your nonprofit organization.
You might worry that getting buy-in from senior management or the members of your Board for really, truly dealing with burnout will be too difficult. They're looking for more concrete improvements: more client attendance at programs, more donations, more grants. Of course they care about the staff and want the best for their employees but also tend to be suspicious of wellness programs.
My name is Dr. Emily Bennett and I'm a naturopathic doctor, consultant, and CEO of Kindling. After nearly 10 years of caring for nonprofit employees in my private practice, I realized there was one category of health problem I was running up against. I could help them diagnose health issues, eat better, move their bodies, get some restorative sleep, but I couldn’t do much of anything to help them manage their burnout. And so I saw so many of my patients quit jobs they cared deeply about because the burnout was so bad for their health.
This lead me to create The Kindling Framework, an evidence-based approach to addressing burnout in the nonprofit + social services sector. At Kindling, we're passionate about helping organizations take a strategic approach to workplace wellbeing that supports their purpose-driven staff and helps nonprofits achieve their missions.
If you've ever struggled with employee cynicism, low engagement or burnout in your organization, here's the great news: we can address this at the root cause by following an evidence-based framework that creates success for years to come.
"At a time when so many organizations are dealing with the realities of burnout, but there is still much misconception about it, Emily helps us to understand what burnout really is, where it actually comes from, and how leaders can begin to meaningfully address this complex phenomenon. [...] You will find yourself reflecting deeply during - and long after - the session, and walking away with practical tools that you can use to start making meaningful changes."
